Mike Knopp

Keynote Speaker

"How Ethics in Sports can Translate to Ethics in the Workplace"

The Oklahoma River is a US Olympic and Paralympic Training Site and a national high performance center for both rowing and canoe/kayak.  As a high performance athlete, a great deal of discipline and high work ethic is required to become a champion.  At RIVERSPORT, we leverage the authenticity as a place where athletes seek and achieve their Olympic dreams to inspire the community and next generation of athletes.  Olympism is more than just athletic prowess – it is how this athletic prowess is utilized to foster strong relationships, character, and life lessons through sport.  Risk is also required to  true success, as well as the appreciation of learning through failure (and cheating can never be an option to achieve greatness in sport or business).

Key Takeaways:

1. Failure is an option to grow to become a champion – but accepting failure with grace is the x factor to future success

2.  The seemingly impossible (taking a ditch to an Olympic Training Site for rowing and canoe kayak with whitewater rapids in OKC) with persistence, a commitment to quality (no cutting corners), and a value for people and relationships

3.  True greatness can only be achieved through hard work, honest, and a respect for risk

About the Speaker:  Mike Knopp is the founder of the RIVERSPORT Foundation and led the development of the Boathouse District since the inception of the project to transform our river from a ditch to a community recreational gem and one of the finest urban aquatic venues in the world.
