Many thanks to our hosts, Dr. Barbara Crandall and Oklahoma City University for the great student ethics challenge on Saturday! We had an outstanding team of corporate judges who did an excellent job of evaluating each teams’ presentations. (Below is a list of the winners.) As an added bonus, the OK Ethics Foundation Board of Directors has some special surprises….
- First, OK Ethics will be hosting the two first place teams at the upcoming OK Ethics Compass Awards. There will be no charge for those six students who wish to attend.
- Secondly, you may recall mention of OK Ethics’ desire to move toward a national venue for our student ethics challenge. We are pleased to announce that, thanks to a recent grant that was requested by Shannon Hiebert and generously provided by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, two advisors will be sponsored to attend the regional ethics bowl in San Antonio this fall. (*Pending agreement by participating Texas university. Grant will cover routine travel costs such as round trip air fare and hotel costs.) We’ve been waiting till the outcome of this year’s event to determine advisor involvement and active student commitment.
OCU’s Dr. Crandall, along with Dr. Katherene Terrell of the University of Central Oklahoma (hosts for the 2008 event), have been selected as the first delegates to represent the Oklahoma Business Ethics Foundation as ambassadors for the regional competition. It is hoped that this great initiative will catch fire and that we’ll be able to sponsor other advisors in the future.
If you want to know more about our long-term goal of participating in a National Ethics Bowl, please visit the website at http://www.indiana.edu/~appe/ethicsbowl.html BTW – please note that the national/regional events are open only to undergraduate participants, but that will not necessarily preclude OK Ethics from sponsoring future graduate tracks of the student ethics challenge. This is something we can discuss at the next Education Council meeting.
One last personal note, I regret that an illness and demands of the upcoming Compass Award program precluded me from dropping by on Saturday. I hated to miss this important event. At the same time, I was happy to hear Bob’s and Pam’ reports that the event was a great success! Plus, I wanted to publicly thank all our corporate leaders for all that their time and continued support of this great initiative – we are very fortunate to have their involvement!
